Eglinton West Gallery Wedding
Joel and Sofia held their wedding at Eglinton West Gallery (EWG) on a Leap Day! So many questions come to mind. Will they only celebrate their anniversary once every four years? Or do they get to double-celebrate on both February 28th and March 1st? (Bonus!)
Leap Day Wedding
Scientifically, a day is added into our calendar every four years to correct the drift caused by seasonal and astronomical events that change by a fraction each day. But of course, we all know about the popular Irish folklore that deems it extra lucky for women to propose to their loves on February 29th. Luck or not, these two were incredibly blessed to be able to slip in their 250 person wedding before the Covid-19 pandemic.
EWG: An Industrial Style Toronto Wedding Venue
EWG is an industrial loft style wedding and event venue located in midtown Toronto. The urban venue is actually made up of two parts, EWG1 and EWG2, which are two almost identical, cleverly separated, connecting spaces.
The exposed city brick walls and aged beamed ceilings created the perfect blank canvas for Joel and Sofia’s wedding. They were really inspired by a boho / romantic / modern theme and the Blush and Bowties team helped bring their ideas to life. Even though it was a winter wedding, they didn’t want to feel confined to the typical colours for the season, so they went with more of a terracotta, burnt orange and champagne palette. Sofia also decided to use golf-leaf elements in their wedding décor as a way to intentionally acknowledge the long line of guilders in their family in Malta.
Sofia’s favourite wedding moment at EWG
“The vows, for sure! Joel and I said both traditional wedding vows, and wrote our own. Speaking these words to my beloved Joel was intense and so beautiful, and trying to stay composed while listening to the beautiful words he had written was near impossible. In that moment it felt like we were the only two people in the room.” – Sophia
Two of our favourite moments from Joel and Sofia’s day were their very emotional first look at OBJX and their first dance. Joel wrote the words to their wedding song and asked a close friend to sing and record it as a surprise for Sofia. Let’s just say there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. We have added his song to their wedding story so you can listen as you scroll. But here are some of his beautiful lyrics:
“I’m falling over
I’m diving in
Found by love is where
this mystery begins
I hold you now
I speak your name
Seen all your brokenness
I love you just the same”
“And deeper and deeper we’ll go
Till mountains have melted off snow
And all that we have left to show
Are flowers and scars
We’ve travelled so far”
Joel and Sofia, we are at a loss for words when it comes to describing the raw beauty and emotion of your day, except to say you two were meant to be. You are true soul mates, poets and great adventurers with big hearts.
