Vancouver Helicopter Elopement
We lucked out with a clear day in weeks of rain for Derek and Leah’s Vancouver helicopter elopement! As you can imagine, our excitement and anticipation for their nuptials was literally sky high, and it was spectacular! Flying in line with waterfalls and cliffs and over mountain tops was surreal. We landed on what felt like a tiny rock from the sky at the edge of a pristine alpine lake for their wedding ceremony.
After their vows, and a shot or two of Fireball, we headed back over the peaks to the hanger were Riley, Derek and Leah’s beloved fur-baby was waiting.
This intimate wedding was a forever-memory for us. Not only was it our first time in a chopper (addicted!) but Derek and Leah’s adventurous spirits and sweet love were deeply memorable. A huge thank you for Sky Helicopters for calming our nerves and making our adrenaline pump!
Leah shares about their Vancouver heli elopement and wedding inspiration
Turns out, the thought of everyone staring at us while we expressed our love for one another, made us both very nervous. So, eloping was a great option! Taking a helicopter into the mountains where we have spent so many of our weekends together made it really special. We made a conscious decision to make our day 100% about our relationship, with no distractions. It ended up being the perfect way for us to get married!
We love their proposal story
Oh boy, the proposal. So we decided collectively to get married, and that eloping was the way to do it. The next step was to search for a wedding ring. One day, I found the perfect ring during my lunch break, and took Derek back to the store after work to take a look. We ordered the ring, and got it back about two weeks later.
Then, Derek held onto it until he was ready to give it to me. (I say held onto it, but it was sitting on our kitchen counter.) I had to stare at that ring on the counter for 3 weeks!
Eventually, I got impatient and said, “Alright, I want this shiny thing on my finger, when can I start wearing it?” Derek then called Riley over (our beautiful golden retriever that you will see in our wedding photos), put the ring INSIDE his mouth! Riley magically licked it right onto my finger! It could have gone one of two ways. Let’s just say, I am very happy he didn’t swallow it!
Derek and Leah’s favourite elopement moment
Definitely the helicopter ride, it was something else! It was amazing to experience this “first” together. It felt like we were floating. After everything was over, we went home, changed out of our fancy wedding clothes, put on jeans and t-shirts, went downstairs to Nook, ate pasta and wine and talked about how amazing our elopement was! It was a great way to unwind after such a whirlwind day!
