Modern Farm Wedding at Greenhouse Cafe
With backgrounds in architecture, holding their wedding at Greenhouse Cafe was an obvious and fitting choice for Ferdi and Steph. Located on the same property as Rosemary Hill, this new wedding venue stylishly combines minimalism and eco-elegance.
The theme of “eco-elegance” weaved its way through all the details of Ferdi and Steph’s day. The Greenhouse Cafe’s angular reception venue was built with timber panels, cement and steel. It also has triple-volume ceilings and plenty of windows, allowing light and shadow to transform the space.
Long Nordic-style tables were set with cement, tinted glass, leather and gold elements, enhancing the minimal structure. What’s more, hanging plants and panels of living plant installations running up the walls, made the wedding guests feel like they were dining in a modern greenhouse.
Similarly, the Greenhouse Cafe’s outdoor ceremony location was constructed with the same architectural ideas in mind. The interesting lines create a sense of intimacy but also allow the natural elements of light and wind to be at play.
Steph shares about their wedding at Greenhouse Cafe
The Greenhouse Cafe was the first wedding venue we looked at. We love every thing about it! Ferdi is an architect and I am a landscape architect. The space harmoniously connects architecture with landscape, representing us well. We also enjoyed celebrating in Pretoria, the city where we fell in love.
The heart behind our wedding day was to tell the story of us. We wanted to share all of our favourite things with our favourite people, including meaningful moments from our journey together so far. The symbol of our faces (which Ferdi designed when he asked me to date him) featured at our engagement and seemed fitting to feature at our wedding too. When we met, we connected over things like our love for God and community, design, the gardens of Babylonstoren, artful food and good wine, live music and a minimalist aesthetic. We love meaningful stuff, and loved that each part of the day had a story behind it… even if we were the only ones who knew it!
We had our first dance at sunset as Georgetown played their bluegrass tunes. There was a moment when the sun was setting, we were in each other’s arms dancing under the open sky and it hit me that the person I love with all of my heart is now my husband, and that we can dance together for the rest of our lives. When everyone jumped in and joined us for the best dance party on the deck, we looked at each other in amazement of the moment. It was the dream!
Ferdi shares one of his favourite moments from their wedding
I loved watching Steph walk down the aisle! I could see her walking through the timber slats of the building and as she approached precious memories from our relationship came flooding back. So many special times came to mind and I was filled with gratitude and was overwhelmed by how fortunate I was to be marrying someone as amazing as Steph. I couldn’t stop crying and smiling!
